Exciting Updates Coming to ProductBC Slack!

What’s Coming?

We’re introducing Tightknit, a powerful tool to help highlight key conversations and resources while enhancing event participation and recognition. At the same time, we’re streamlining Slack channels to ensure better conversations and a more organized experience.

Why Tightknit?

Tightknit will bring exciting benefits to ProductBC, including:

  1. Spotlighting and Saving Key Discussions
Tightknit ensures you see the most relevant content, conversations, and events, and those conversations are retained for future reference.
  2. Showcasing Community Knowledge
Through a community hub on the ProductBC website, our shared insights and resources will become accessible outside Slack, helping to amplify our expertise and welcome new members.
  3. Simplifying Events
Discover, organize, and participate in ProductBC events with ease using Tightknit’s event tools.
  4. Celebrating Contributions
Member recognition will highlight members for their valuable contributions to the community.

Updated Channel Naming

To complement Tightknit’s benefits, we’ll start with updated Slack channel names this week. These will align with four new prefixes:

  • community-: For official updates, information, and initiatives related to the community itself. These channels focus on fostering collaboration and maintaining the health of the community.
  • share-: Dedicated to sharing resources, tools, and knowledge. These channels emphasize contributions that help others learn, discover, or improve their craft.
  • group-: Channels for smaller, focused discussions or collaboration around specific topics or interests within the community.
  • talk-: Open conversation spaces for casual discussions, questions, or exchanges of ideas. These channels foster engagement and exploration across diverse topics.

Merging and renaming channels will reduce confusion and make it easier to find what you need. For example:

  • events-online + events-vancouver → community-events
  • questions-general + questions-specifici-would-like-feedback → talk-ask-anything

What’s Next?

These updates will roll out gradually, starting with channel naming changes this week. As Tightknit is implemented, you’ll see its benefits in surfacing key discussions, improving event engagement, and celebrating your contributions.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait for you to experience these improvements. Stay tuned for more updates and reach out to #community-helpdesk if you have questions or feedback.

Let’s grow and connect, one step at a time!
